Before you play
You must be 18 years of age or older to buy Lottery tickets and claim prizes.

You are responsible for checking your entries before leaving the Retailer location or confirming the PowerBall® entry on an Automated Teller Machine, cellular phone or the internet.

A ticket is void if stolen, unissued, mutilated, illegible, tampered with or altered in any way, defective or incomplete.

The National Lottery is not responsible for lost or stolen tickets.

You must fill in your name, address and phone number on the back of your winning ticket before you file a prize claim.

All winning tickets are subject to validation by the National Lottery.

All winning tickets are bearer instruments.

All prizes must be claimed within one year from the date of the draw.

PowerBall® is a game of chance where the player should select, in a single play (one Board), five numbers and the PowerBall number that match the numbers and the PowerBall number drawn for the game in which the Player is participating.

PowerBall® entries may be purchased -

• from a authorised Retailer using a PowerBall®  Entry Coupon or utilising the QUICKPICK®  functionality,
• from a participating cash register or automated teller machine or other similar device following the playing instructions associated with that device,
• from an authorised Mail Subscription agent, and
• using any other method of sale approved by the National Lottery including mobile, internet or telephonic devices following the playing instructions associated with such methods of sale.

Each PowerBall® Game Board costs R3.50 inclusive of VAT.

The PowerBall® game draw machines contain 45 and 20 numbered balls respectively. In each Draw, five balls will be drawn by a draw machine containing forty-five balls numbered from 1 to 45 inclusive and one ball will be drawn by a separate draw machine containing twenty balls numbered 1 to 20 inclusive.  The first five (5) numbers drawn out of 45, are the Main Numbers. The first number drawn out of 20, is the PowerBall Number.

If you match the five numbers and the PowerBall number drawn you win the Jackpot ("MATCH FIVE + ONE"). The other winning categories are as follows:

• Prize Division Eight and the lowest prize category means that the Player has correctly matched one of the selected five Main Numbers and the PowerBall number. The appropriate prize category is called MATCH ONE OF FORTY-FIVE AND ONE OF TWENTY NUMBERS ("MATCH ONE + ONE").
• Prize Division Seven means that the Player has correctly matched two of the selected five Main Numbers and the PowerBall number.  The appropriate prize category is called MATCH TWO OF FORTY-FIVE AND ONE OF TWENTY NUMBERS ("MATCH TWO + ONE").
• Prize Division Six means that the Player has correctly matched three of the selected five Main Numbers.  The appropriate prize category is called MATCH THREE OF FORTY-FIVE ("MATCH THREE").
• Prize Division Five means that the Player has correctly matched three of the selected five Main Numbers and the PowerBall number. The appropriate prize category is called MATCH THREE OF FORTY-FIVE AND ONE OF TWENTY NUMBERS ("MATCH THREE + ONE").
• Prize Division Four means that the Player has correctly matched four of the selected five Main Numbers.  The appropriate prize category is called MATCH FOUR OF FORTY-FIVE ("MATCH FOUR").
• Prize Division Three means that the Player has correctly matched four of the selected five Main Numbers and the PowerBall number.  The appropriate prize category is called MATCH FOUR OF FORTY-FIVE AND ONE OF TWENTY NUMBERS ("MATCH FOUR + ONE").
• Prize Division Two means that the Player has correctly matched all five of the selected five Main Numbers. The appropriate prize category is called MATCH FIVE OF FORTY-FIVE ("MATCH FIVE").

PowerBall® Entries are available for sale between 06:00 and 23:00 on non-draw days except Sundays. On Sundays, tickets may be purchased between 06:00 and 18:00. Retailers' trading hours and the terms and conditions of alternate sales channels may limit these sales hours.

But remember: PowerBall® ticket sales close at 21:00 on Tuesdays and Fridays unless the terms and conditions of any approved method of sale specify a time earlier. Sales will thereafter only commence the next morning.

On any one PowerBall® Entry Coupon a Player may play a minimum of one Game Board.

You must manually mark in black or blue pen or pencil five (5) numbers from the numbers 1 to 45 and one (1) from the numbers 1 to 20 on each of one or more Game Boards. Submit the completed PowerBall® Entry Coupon with the appropriate amount due to the Retailer who will process the completed PowerBall® Entry Coupon through the Terminal. A Ticket recording each selection marked on the coupon will be issued to you. If the Terminal rejects the PowerBall®Entry Coupon, the entry is not valid.

You can also enter your selection/s for successive Draws between 2 and 10. When you opt for the Multi-Draw facility you must mark the appropriate box on the PowerBall® Entry Coupon to determine the number of PowerBall® Draws for which your Selection (s) are to be entered.

The period covered by the selected Multi- Draw shall commence on the first Tuesday or Friday subsequent to the date on which you made your selection. This period shall end when the number of Draws selected and indicated on a Ticket is conducted.

The cost of a Multi-Draw ticket will be the total cost of the Game Boards selected multiplied by the number of Draws the Player has chosen to enter.

You may also purchase a Ticket that contains numbers randomly generated by the Terminal. This is called a QUICKPICK® Ticket. You may request such a Ticket from the Retailer. QUICKPICK® Tickets are available for R7, R14, R35 or R70 to provide you with 2, 4, 10 or 20 board/game selections respectively.

QUICKPICK® Tickets are also available for other denominations and Multiple Draws.

If you want to cancel one of the game boards of the coupon you have played, you only have to mark the CANCEL box of the relevant playing field.

If you want to cancel a Ticket purchased from a National Lottery Terminal, you must present that Ticket to the Retail Outlet, which issued the Ticket, not earlier than three minutes after the time it was purchased but within 2 hours of the time when it was purchased, or prior to the close of the Retail Outlet where the issuing terminal is situated or the close of sales for that day, whichever is the earlier.

On cancellation of a Ticket, you will be entitled to a refund from the Retailer equal to the retail price of the Entry.

A Multi-Draw Ticket shall only be capable of cancellation in accordance with the above and, in any event, prior to the first Draw in respect of which the Ticket has been issued.

You may request a QUICKPICK® PowerBall®  entry in 2, 4, 8 or 20 Board denominations from the cash register attendant of participating retail outlets.

The cash register will print a Ticket that will display a condensed version of the terms and conditions (normally on the back of a PowerBall® Ticket) as a footer on the ticket.

All participating retail outlets that sell tickets through cash registers also have a National Lottery terminal to ensure that the full suite of National Lottery Products and functionalities are still available at the retail outlet.

You may cancel a ticket bought at a cash register by presenting it at the National Lottery terminal installed at the participating retailer within 2 hours following the time of sale. If the ticket sales are suspended in accordance with the PowerBall® Game Rules within the 2 hour-period, the ticket may only be cancelled up to the suspension of the ticket sales.

Cash registers are not able to validate any prize.

You may purchase QUICKPICK PowerBall® tickets at ATM's of participating banks. These tickets will be offered in various denominations (e.g. 2, 4, 10 or 20 Board).

The participating ATM will display instructions that you must follow to purchase a PowerBall® entry. Such a purchase is made in compliance with terms and conditions approved for ATM's. These terms and conditions are contained in "How to Play" leaflets obtainable from the participating bank and available electronically on relevant websites. By purchasing a PowerBall® entry from ATM's, you agree to be bound by the applicable terms and conditions of that channel and do so with full acceptance thereof.

ATM's will print a receipt containing the QUICKPICK® selection numbers, the draw date, the price of the ticket, the date and time of purchase and the bank reference or trace number.

Please note that no cancellations will be allowed through these channels. As a final step of the process, you will be requested to confirm the transaction.

You may participate in a Mail Subscription Service that will enable you to participate in the PowerBall® Game for 26, 32, 56 or 104 draws.

Players who wish to play via Mail Subscription must submit a completed Mail Subscription application form with the required payment or payment authority to the address shown on the form. The form is obtained by contacting the Players "Help Line" on 0800 777 777 (free call) between 06:00 and 23:00 every day, or it can be downloaded from www.nationallottery.co.za

You can also purchase a PowerBall® Mail Subscription for a loved one, acquaintance, a friend etc.  On the application form, you will fill in your details as well as the recipient's details.

Players may purchase a valid PowerBall® entry using a method of sale approved by the National Lottery including mobile, internet or telephonic devices following the playing instructions associated with such methods of sale. These purchases will be confirmed by a printable or electronic purchase receipt issued or displayed by the device.

Please note that in some instances, these methods of sales may not offer all the functionalities (e.g., cancellation of entries, multi-draw, own number selection) supported by a National Lottery Terminal. By purchasing a PowerBall® entry using these methods, you agree to be bound by the applicable terms and conditions of that method of sale and do so with full acceptance thereof.

These terms and conditions will be contained in "How to Play" leaflets and will be available electronically on relevant websites.

A public draw that determines the winning numbers is conducted twice per week every Tuesday and Friday. The Draws are normally broadcasted live on TV.

Following is a table presenting the winning categories:

If in any PowerBall® Draw, there are no Selections qualifying for a prize in the Jackpot category the prize money for this category will be added to the Jackpot for the next Draw.  If there is no Jackpot Winning Selection, then the entire Jackpot prize pool will roll until there is a winner.

In the event of a Cancelled Draw or Draws for whatever reason, the Jackpot rolled over from a Draw preceding the Cancelled Draw, will be added to the Jackpot for the next Draw.

If in any Draw, there is no winner in any of the prize categories, the prize pool for the particular category will be rolled-down to the next category.

Prize money allocated to each of the prize categories will be divided equally by the number of Winning Selections in that category.
