AN UNEMPLOYED MAN FROM THE EAST RAND HITS IT BIG WITH POWERBALL
Life will never be the same for a 45-year old unemployed man from the East Rand in Gauteng – he is one of the two lucky winners of last Friday’s R10,7 million Jackpot.
Yesterday he came forward to claim his prize, which he described as “a key to a better life”.
For him, a simple walk to a national lottery retailer to check the winning numbers proved more meaningful and rewarding than many similar trips that he had taken previously.
The unemployed married father of two carefully jotted the winning numbers on a piece of paper and headed home only to discover that the ticket on which he had spent R21 was his key to a better future.
The avid player of the LOTTO and Wina Manje scratch cards says lady luck has granted him a chance to change his life.
“I want to start a business, provide good education for my children, buy a house, a car, build a house back at home in Limpopo and invest some of the money.
“I would also like to donate some money to my church,” he said with excitement.
In celebration of his win, he plans to take his family out to lunch.
PowerBall’s 40th draw last Friday produced two jackpot winners in one go, the first time this has happened since the game was launched in October last year.
National Lottery operator Gidani spokesperson Thembi Tulwana said until last Friday, Powerball Jackpots had been won by single ticket holders.
“Both winning tickets were bought in Gauteng, but the second winner has not come forward to claim yet,” said Tulwana.
Hot on the heels of Friday’s win, a lucky player from Northwest scooped Tuesday’s R3, 1 million Jackpot.
And for this Friday, PowerBall players will be treated to an estimated R5 million Jackpot.
